Science and Safety at Work
B-BS protocol was developed in the flow of
Behavioral Sciences and especially of Behavior Analysis, or Science of
Behavior.
Behavior Analysis, Learning Psychology, Behavioral
Psychology are largely synonymous.
The behavioral science has developed in the early
'900, as psychology but it differentiated immediately according to the
object's studying: behavior instead of the psyche. Psychology and
Behavior Analysis are different even for their method: experimental,
empirical, Galileo, typical of Sciences natural and completely different
from that of the human sciences. Because of its origin, strictly
scientific and experimental, B-BS is "behavior-based", i.e. it has the
behavior as object to study and as a source of measurable data to prove
its effectiveness.
This shows how a very
popular claim in the slums of business advice
is unacceptable: according to this claim, there may be more
than one B-BS, changed at
will following the intuitions or conceptual
speculations of this or that safety gurus.
The laws and paradigms of Behavior Analysis, on
which the B-BS is based, can not be modified
or adapted, nor are the laws of biology for a medicine
doctor. A changing
of a surgical protocol requires that the
physician-inventor carries the burden of
proof. And that evidence can always and everywhere be replicated in many
controlled and independent experiments. For
this reason, the Scientific Society of the B-BS in Europe, AARBA, shall
ensure that the Behavior-Based Safety is well established in Italy as
Evidence-Based Safety.
This effort finally sees ethics
involved and it is very meaniningfull that, in addition to the scientific community, even the most
important institutions and associations in charge of safety in our
country care about its right implementations
